๐ 3 Prompts To Push Characters Further
If writing is going swell but you feel like you're only scratching the surface of your characters, here are 3 prompts to dive deeper!
Itโs no secret that developing characters is my absolute favorite aspect of writing.
That said, sometimes itโs easy to get wrapped up in plot, events, and world-building at the expense of our characterโs journey.
While weโre in the waning crescent phase of the moon cycle right now, we want to make sure that our heroโs personality and intentions arenโt cast in too much shadow.
To avoid that, here are three in-depth prompts to remedy flat characters in your story.
1. Your main character comes home (or back to wherever they're staying) to find a small bouquet of flowers addressed to them. Who is it from? What does it mean?
2. What happens when one of the side characters develops beef with your MC? Where does the conflict come from? Who is at fault and how can it be resolved?
3. Write a scene exemplifying how your characterโs spiritual beliefs play into a big decision that influences the plot.
For the next few days, as we work towards the new moon, make sure to take care of your physical and mental needs. This will help you stay on top of your word count goals so that once the new moon hits, you can give yourself some much deserved rest.
If your characters are giving you trouble, Iโm scheduling developmental edits through the rest of the yearโor, if your draft isnโt quite finished, contact me directly for a tutoring session!
Take care, fighting writers, and donโt hesitate to get in touch if you need anything! Links below as always.
